Dear colleagues and friends

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to you to announce the Australian Council for Private Education and Training’s (ACPET) 2017 national conference will be held in Brisbane. The conference also marks 25 years of ACPET’s formation, which is a very significant milestone. It marks a quarter of a century of achievement and sends a signal that we will have to thoroughly review what we have been doing as we prepare for major growth and change in education. I am extremely proud to be a part of this organisation at such an important time.

The conference will provide, for many attendees, a quiet relaxed time in the sub tropics in the middle of winter! We will be hosting the conference on the banks of the Brisbane river, nestled in the lively Southbank precinct at the world class Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

ACPET’s national conference, brings together 1200 members in Higher Education, Vocational Education, English language and foundation courses. The challenges facing Australian educators have never been bigger. Australia has a great domestic system and is high on world rankings as a destination for international students. We can’t be complacent about these things and have to be thinking ahead about how we remain an international standard bearer for education.

Our planning committee has made great progress and I am pleased to announce that early bird registrations will be available in February, along with calls for abstracts reflecting six key themes we believe are significant to our industry in today’s changing environment. Our conference organisers are already welcoming conference partners and seeking sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities. The three day program is slowly taking shape as we hand pick the most engaging, knowledgeable and influential speakers to invite to be a part of our event.

I believe, that aside from the opportunity to hear from some incredible speakers the best parts of such events is always the more socially focused events and experiences that offer a fabulous chance to mingle with educational professionals and guests in a collegiate environment. This year we will be hosting a welcome reception within the Southbank precinct and the annual dinner as always will be a highlight of the three days.

There are many key dates to stay abreast of in the lead up to the 2017 National Conference, and we want to keep you informed as the program takes shape. I am pleased to share with you that we are in the process of finalising a conference app for the event. This will mean that you can simply download the free app to your device and receive push notifications about key dates, program updates and lots more. The app will also enhance your conference experience, with venue maps, access to the full event program, sponsor and exhibitor information, and social media feeds all through the ease of your device.

Finally, 2017 marks a significant 25 year milestone for ACPET. The opportunity will not be missed to reflect on how the association has evolved in this time and the challenges it has met along the way. More importantly, we will discuss and debate how the future must be shaped to support our students and their learning aspirations.

I look forward to beginning the next quarter century of our Association’s contribution.
